NCGPTP Induction Course

Throughout your GP training your year group will learn together, providing educational and social support. We believe that developing the group at an early stage and cementing the relationships within your group provides the best possible structure for a successful training experience.

For over 20 years the programme has provided a two-day induction course designed specifically to facilitate the creation of a strong group ethos at the outset of training. Based at an outward-bound centre in the heart of the Lake District a series of academic, team-building and physical out-door challenges creates the perfect opportunity to get to know your peers and develop strong working relationships which will maximise your chances of success through training and, if past experience holds true, will also begin life-long friendships.

Here is the feedback from last year’s induction course:

Awesome! Best induction ever. Loved the team building / get to know you. Informal atmosphere encourages break down of barriers / bonding. Outdoor activities encourages bonding and challenges ourselves. Definitely keep doing it.

I found this kind of learning in a group outside the education centre wonderful. I congratulate the organisers for getting this idea for outdoor learning. I really enjoyed this.

Thank you so much for the wonderful 2 days! Everything felt very natural and easy. I learned a lot, met and got to know a lot of nice people, am less shy about the GP trainers.

An excellent two days. A great mixture of formal teaching and informal activities that allowed the group to learn more about each other which will help us in further teaching sessions.

Having this as a residential really removes us from the sometimes stifling environment of hospital based teaching. If this were to be done in the Postgrad Centre at CIC, then we would be in an area having to remain completely professional and therefore not able to relax and get to know each other which is so important because of how geographically spread out we are and how isolating that can be. I would be willing to pay more to do this again in ST1 and ST2.

It was a great learning experience. Great ice breaker. New ways of learning. Good way to know about the area.

Great workshops, team building. Fantastic programme, great people. Would be fantastic to keep this going on yearly basis for all trainees.

Great couple of days. Spending 2 days together allows us to bond as a group, get to know each other properly which we could not do as well in a classroom situation. Learned a lot about personalities, roles within teams. Had a great time. Thanks.

Excellent couple of days. Really well organised but flexible approach. Mining fell walk really good. Clearer kit list would be good. Enjoyed water sports lots. Couldn’t have such great learning opportunities non-residential.
