Programme Overview

We have been training GP’s in this region for over 40 years and have continued to maintain a high standard of training in hospital posts and a variety of training practices throughout North Cumbria. We have a high proportion of trainees who settle in the area and go on to become the next generation of GP trainers. We consistently receive excellent feedback from Post Graduate Doctors in Training relating to educational supervision and local teaching.

It is our aim to produce competent and caring GPs, provide flexible, supportive and responsive training, and to develop self-awareness and life-long learning in our Post Graduate Doctors in Training. Our newly amalgamated programme will seek to build on these traditions by providing the supportive close-knit feel of a small programme offering training based around two distinct training locations with the opportunity to select from a wide range of posts.  Post Graduate Doctors in Training will be able to preference the Carlisle training base, the Whitehaven training base or a mix of posts.
